Love Unlimited

Love Unlimited Info

Love Unlimited was a female vocal trio that provided backing vocals for American R&B/soul singer Barry White on his albums and concert tours. They also found success with their own recordings. Formed in 1969, the group included Barry White’s future wife, Glodean James, her sister, Linda James, and their cousin Diane Taylor (who died of cancer in Pomona, California on November 29, 1985 at age 38). Their first hit was "Walking in the Rain with the One I Love" in 1972. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 7 on the Cash Box Top 100, and 6 on the Best Selling Soul Singles Chart. It was also successful in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA in July 1972. In 1975, they had their first and only number 1 song, "I Belong to You", which spent a week at the top of the Best Selling Soul Singles Chart. It also peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1973, when their album entitled Under the Influence of...Love Unlimited peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, Love Unlimited became the first female group to have an album reach the top five since Greatest Hits Vol. 3 from Diana Ross and the Supremes in 1970.

1973 Under the Influence Of Love
Under The Influence of Love is the second studio album by Love Unlimited.
This album became an underground smash in gay and black bars and dance clubs. Long before it hit #1 on the Hot 100, "Love's Theme" ubiquitously played as anthem opening and closing each night's festivities. The vocal tracks like the title track was practically chosen because of the feverish reaction in the clubs. "It May Winter Outside" almost follows The Supremes hit B-side, "Everything's Good About You" from their "I Hear a Symphony" and "Diana Ross & The Supremes Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2) albums. Undoubtedly, the familiarity of that melody was another contributing element to "Under Influence of Love"....become a Top 3/Gold sophomore album." (Still mysteriously has never been digitize on CD or as an MP3).

1979 Love Is Back

Love Is Back is the fifth studio album by Love Unlimited. The album starts with the track "I'm So Glad That I'm a Woman", a R&B song considered by many a hymn to women, written by Barry White (creator of the group) and Paul Politi. Three tracks entered the charts: "I'm So Glad That I'm a Woman", "High Steppin', Hip Dressin' Fella (You Got It Together)" and "If You Want Me, Say It" but unfortunately both three songs didn't have high position because of promotion problems.

1997 The Best Of Love Unlimited

The Best of Love Unlimited is a generous 17-track overview of the female trio's career, with the vast majority of the songs produced and written (or co-written) by their mentor, Barry White, spanning the years 1972-1980. Naturally, their two big hits are present: the gold-selling R&B Top Ten hit "Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)" and the R&B number one "I Belong to You." But with White at the controls, Love Unlimited managed a number of other fine moments, usually with a sound that wasn't too dissimilar from White's own records. They weren't necessarily carbon copies - a classic female soul group sound pops up now and again, as with the Motown-style bounce of "It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart, It's Spring)." There's also an endearing, disco-fied dance track in "High Steppin', Hip Dressin' Fella (You Got It Together)." But even those bear White's instantly recognizable touch as an arranger, and his fingerprints are all over excellent in other hits in that album...
